Empowering Future Leaders: The YSU Membership Scholarship Initiative
The YSU Membership Scholarships for Students are designed to empower young professionals at Youngstown State University by providing them with access to the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals (MVYP) network. This scholarship aims to foster career growth, build professional connections, and enhance leadership skills for YSU students who are passionate about contributing to the Mahoning Valley. By bridging the gap between education and the professional world, these scholarships equip students with valuable tools and opportunities to succeed in their future careers while giving back to their local community.
Rules for the YSU Student Membership Scholarships to
Mahoning Valley Young Professionals (MVYP)
Eligibility:
1. Age Requirement: Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 26 at the time of application.
2. YSU Enrollment: Applicants must be currently enrolled at Youngstown State University (YSU) and have an active YSU email address ending in “.edu.”
3. Residency: Applicants must reside within the Mahoning Valley region.
4. Field of Study: Open to students from all majors and fields of study.
5. Previous Memberships: Applicants who have previously received this scholarship are eligible to apply again.
Application Process:
6. Application Form: Applicants must complete the official MVYP scholarship application form, available on the MVYP website.
7. Essay Submission: Applicants must submit a 100-500 word essay on one of the following topics:
- "How do you envision contributing to the Mahoning Valley as a young professional?"
- "Why is networking important for your professional development?"
8. Letter of Recommendation: A letter of recommendation from a professor, advisor, or employer can be submitted alongside the application.
9. Deadline: Applications must be submitted by 12/31/2024 at 11:59 PM EST. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Selection Criteria:
10. Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of the essay, letter of recommendation, and demonstrated interest in professional development.
11. Selection Committee: Winners will be chosen by a committee composed of MVYP board members and partners.
Scholarship Terms:
12. Membership Coverage: Scholarships cover a one-year MVYP membership valued at $100. This includes access to networking events, professional development opportunities, and exclusive member perks.
13. Membership Activation: Winners must activate their membership within 30 days of being notified. Failure to activate will result in forfeiture of the scholarship.
14. Engagement Requirement: Scholarship recipients must attend at least three MVYP events during the year to maintain their membership.
15. Code of Conduct: Recipients are expected to adhere to MVYP’s code of conduct and behave professionally at all events.
Additional Information:
16. Non-Transferable: Scholarships are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash or substituted for other benefits.
17. Revocation: MVYP reserves the right to revoke the scholarship if a recipient is found to have violated MVYP policies or provided false information during the application process.
18. Publicity: By accepting the scholarship, recipients consent to having their names, photos, and essays published in MVYP promotional materials and press releases.
19. Limit of Liability: MVYP is not responsible for any expenses incurred by recipients beyond the scope of the membership benefits.
20. Modification of Rules: MVYP reserves the right to modify the rules or cancel the scholarship program at any time without prior notice.
